When the Wind Falls Silent, the Sea Was Never Divided
Huai Hsiang Wang / Prana Dynamics / 般若動能
I. The Formation of the World
Most people believe
that the world is outside,
while they themselves are inside.
⸻
So they look at the world,
and they look at themselves.
Yet few ever notice
that everything before their eyes
has already passed through the senses,
and then through the interpretations of the mind.
⸻
What people see
has never been the naked world itself.
It is more like
light passing through the senses,
forming an image within the mind.
II. The Sea and the Wind
Awareness
is like the sea.
The senses
are like the surface of water.
⸻
And the mind
is like the wind.
⸻
Once the wind begins to move,
the water starts to ripple.
And the reflection
becomes distorted.
⸻
Emotion is like this.
Desire is like this.
Fear is like this.
Attachment is like this.
⸻
The stronger the wind,
the less clearly one sees.
⸻
Slowly,
people begin mistaking the waves for the world,
and the reflection on the water
for themselves.
III. Turning the Light Around
To turn the light around
does not mean escaping the world.
It means
allowing the wind to gradually settle.
⸻
The first step
is not making the world quiet.
It is allowing
the mind that constantly chases the world
to become still.
⸻
As if
pressing pause within oneself.
⸻
Not suppression.
Not resistance.
Simply
no longer chasing the waves.
⸻
Then,
the wind begins to soften.
And the water
slowly becomes quiet.
⸻
This
is stillness gathering itself.
IV. Silence
When the wind stops,
the water naturally returns to calmness.
⸻
Without waves,
there is no distortion.
⸻
The sky above the water
and the reflection within it
begin to meet again.
⸻
This
is silence.
V. Ease
When the surface no longer churns,
what was once tight
begins to loosen.
⸻
Like a fist
held closed for too many years,
finally opening.
⸻
Then,
the water begins to flow again.
⸻
The places once blocked
slowly soften.
⸻
This
is ease.
VI. Seeing
As the quiet deepens,
one slowly begins to realize:
the surface of the water,
the water itself,
and what lies above it
were never truly separate.
⸻
It was only the waves
that temporarily shattered them apart.
⸻
And when the waves disappear,
division also begins to fade.
⸻
This
is seeing.
⸻
Not understanding through thought.
But rather:
when separation fades,
wholeness becomes visible again.
VII. Wisdom
When division ceases,
one suddenly sees:
inside and outside
were never truly separate.
⸻
The body
is like a jar.
There is water inside the jar,
and water outside it as well.
⸻
Yet for so long,
people have mistaken the jar itself
for who they are.
⸻
And so there is fear.
Loss.
Birth and death.
⸻
But once the jar is seen through,
the sea becomes whole again.
⸻
This
is wisdom.
⸻
Not gaining a new answer.
But finally seeing
that inside and outside the jar
have always belonged to the same sea.
VIII. Attainment
Then,
one begins to move freely.
⸻
Not because something has been gained.
But because
nothing was ever truly lost.
⸻
This
is attainment.
⸻
And true attainment
is ultimately nothing to attain.
⸻
From then on,
the storms may still come,
yet the heart no longer wanders.
⸻
Whether clear skies
or rain,
the sea
has never been divided.
⸻
A rain cloak in mist and rain for the rest of this life.
